What an Endoscopic Revision of Gastric Bypass Is?
Endoscopic revision of gastric bypass is a non-surgical procedure that uses an endoscope to update a previously performed gastric bypass. This is a novel, truly minimally invasive and innovative procedure.

Who Should Get An Endoscopic Gastric Bypass Revision?
- A patient who has previously received a gastric bypass that has not performed to expectations and has not led to the desired weight loss results.
- Dr Majid and her team will make adjustments to the size and shape of the stomach and its connection with the small intestine, improving its function and helping patients achieve their weight loss goals.
- First, our team will want to determine the reason why the gastric bypass was not successful and whether this was due to a medical reason or whether it was due to dietary and lifestyle factors.
How is an Endoscopic Revision of Gastric Bypass Performed?
It is performed by using an endoscope – a long, thin tube with a light and camera – that goes through the mouth to the stomach allowing our team to see inside the stomach and make any adjustments from there.
During the procedure, Dr. Majid will make small incisions in the stomach by using specialized instruments to make adjustments to the size and shape.
The endoscopic bypass revision is typically performed under general anesthesia, so the patient will be asleep during the procedure. This procedure takes much less time than surgical revision, and patients go home the same day.
After the procedure, the patient will be taken to the recovery room to be monitored until they are awake and stable.
Benefits and Risks Associated with Endoscopic Revision of Gastric Bypass:
As with any procedure, there are going to be risks and benefits, some of which we’ve highlighted below.
Benefits of an Endoscopic Gastric Bypass Revision Include:

Recovery Time and What to Expect Post-Treatment
After the procedure, the patient will be taken to the recovery room to be monitored until they are awake and stable.
Once discharged, patients will need to follow post-operative care and follow-up appointments.
Patients can expect to experience some discomfort and swelling in the abdominal area, patients may also experience some nausea and vomiting in the days following the procedure. This is normal and can typically be managed with medication.
Most patients can expect to return to their normal activities within a few days of the procedure, although it may take several weeks to fully recover.
What Kind of Results Can You Expect:
The results of a gastric bypass revision can vary, depending on a number of factors, including the specific issues being addressed and the individual patient’s response to the procedure.
Patients can usually expect to experience the improved function of the stomach and intestines, leading to improved weight loss and overall health that was originally anticipated with the revised gastric bypass.
