What is a lap band?

A lap band, also called a laparoscopic adjustable gastric band, is a small surgical device that is wrapped around the upper portion of the stomach during a medical weight loss surgery. The purpose of the procedure is the limit the amount of food that can be eaten at one time. A lap band can be adjusted to different degrees of tightness, which will increase or lower the time it takes for food to pass through. In turn, patients usually are able to lose weight and maintain a healthier eating pattern long-term.

At the Weight Loss and Wellness Center, we offer lap band surgery for patients who we determine to be good candidates, as well as offer numerous other weight loss support programs, including support groups and nutritional counseling.
