Endoscopic Sleeve in New Jersey

An Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty, sometimes referred to as an Endoscopic Sleeve, is a new, non-surgical procedure for weight loss. This procedure uses endoscopic sutures to create a thin, sleeve-shaped stomach without cutting or removing stomach tissue but by folding the stomach onto itself.  Our team at the Weight Loss and Wellness Center will work with you to find the best treatment option for you.

What is an Endoscopic Sleeve?

Experience a Non-Invasive Weight Loss Procedure

An endoscopic surgery gastroplasty is a new, non-surgical procedure for weight loss. This procedure uses endoscopic sutures to create a thin, sleeve-shaped stomach without cutting or removing stomach tissue but by folding the stomach onto itself. This procedure will keep the stomach intact rather than removing parts of the stomach that other procedures would. This can reduce the stomach capacity by approximately 70%.

How are Endoscopic Sleeves Performed?

We do this by performing a minimally invasive technique using an endoscope with a suturing device and a camera which allows us to safely and securely perform the procedure without opening up the torso.

The process is done by entering through the mouth, so no surgery or incisions are needed and thus patients will have no scarring.

During the procedure, the patient will be put under anesthesia. Once the patient is put under anesthesia, an initial endoscope enters through the patient’s mouth, travels through the mouth, down the esophagus and into the stomach. The attached camera will provide our team with an assessment of the gastrointestinal tract in a minimally invasive way.

Once the examination has been cleared a special suturing device is attached to the endoscope and is passed into the stomach which is then used to transform the stomach into a tube shape. This is done using a full set of sutures to stitch the gastric walls onto themselves. Normally we perform this in a specific pattern from the bottom of the stomach (antrum) to the top of the stomach (fundus). The end result of this suturing is the creation of a newly shaped “sleeve” within the patient’s stomach.

The entire process takes around 90 to 120 minutes. Most patients are usually able to return home after a short observation period.

Benefits and Risks Associated with an Endoscopic Sleeve

An endoscopic sleeve is a weight loss option we offer to patients who are not qualified for bariatric surgery.

One of the benefits of the endoscopic sleeve procedure is that it is fully reversible and adjustments can be made throughout the process such as stomach sizing adjustments, thus it is non-permanent in nature.

The endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty procedure is specifically for patients that meet the following criteria:

This may also include anyone with a body mass index (BMI) of less than 40 with no comorbidities, those with a BMI between 30 and 35, with serious comorbidities, or those who have large amounts of abdominal scarring from injuries or previous procedures.

This type of procedure is ideal for candidates dealing with the following issues:

The ideal candidate for Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty should meet the following criteria:

A BMI of 30 to 40, although some patients with a BMI lower or higher may qualify after a consultation with one of our physicians at the Weight Loss and Wellness Center in New Jersey.

Following your procedure, your doctor will walk you through any post-procedure steps. You’ll also be given information on what to expect during your weight loss. In addition to a gastric balloon, your doctor might suggest trying one or more of the following additional weight loss treatment options:

What to Expect Post-Treatment

The non-invasive, non-surgical nature of this procedure allows for a pleasant post-procedure experience. Our patients are usually able to return home after a few hours

We generally recommend a soft liquid diet for a brief amount of time after the procedure, specific recommendations vary on a patient-by-patient basis.

Normally patients can eat a small amount of food and this is something to keep in mind, as overeating can cause discomfort. The endoscopic sleeve procedure should be performed in conjunction with a diet and exercise plan for the best results.

What Kind of Results Can I Expect

Through early trials and published medical articles, Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty has shown great results for patients with one study from the medical journal ‘Endoscopy’ showed patients can expect to lose 30% of their body weight within 6 months of the procedure. With most patients in the study experienced 15-20% excess weight loss, and 30-60% excess weight loss after 6 months. Patients also experience Comorbidity reduct, especially in patients suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes, and sleep apnea.

The Endoscopic Gastroplasty procedure will reduce the capacity of a patient’s stomach leading by reducing the volume of the stomach which will lead to patients becoming fuller faster and requiring fewer calories. This accompanied by a proper diet and exercise regime will lead to accelerated weight loss for our patients.
